If you’re like me, you wish you could speak your mind better. Say the things you want to say the way you want to say them so they aren’t misconstrued, easing the load of all these thoughts by releasing them to the wild. And maybe letting those close to you know how you really feel with each careful word.
David Sedaris has conquered that feat.
I wouldn’t expect to have so much in common with him, a guy multiple decades older than me with a completely different upbringing and family dynamic. Yet, here I am, laughing and agreeing with so much of what he says. All of it, really. This is my first read of his after a long time coming, and I imagine this is how most people feel. His stories are situation-specific but so real, painted with humor and heart and god-damn-he’s-so-right instinct. There isn’t one part of this book I didn’t like.
He makes it look so easy, commenting on the world around him in a string of short essays. It’s sure as hell easy to read them.
